Bucharest, January 15th, 2025
The National Culture Day, an event reaching its 15th edition, was celebrated today simultaneously in Bucharest, by the Romanian Academy, and in Chișinău, by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
Romfilatelia, an institutional partner of the Romanian Academy, was invited to launch the postage stamp series ‘The Morning Star of the Romanian Poetry, Mihai Eminescu’, in the Aula Magna Hall of this prestigious cultural institution.
January 15th, 1850 has, for the past fifteen years, been celebrated as the National Culture Day, established to promote culture, art, and academic endeavour.
The ‘unequalled poet’ was honoured through speeches or online messages by Acad. Ioan-Aurel Pop, President of the Romanian Academy; Acad. Ion Tighineanu, President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova; Mihai Cimpoi, Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy; His Grace Varlaam Ploieșteanul, Patriarchal Vicar Bishop, on behalf of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church; Natalia-Elena Intotero, Minister of Culture; Daniel David, Minister of Education and Research; Prof. Rodica Zafiu, Ph.D., Corresponding Member of the Romanian Academy; and Ion Marin, Founding President of ‘Madrigal – Marin Constantin’ National Chamber Programme.
In her speech, Cristina Popescu retrospectively presented the postage stamp issues dedicated to Mihai Eminescu, as well as the current issue marking 175 years since the poet’s birth. She also expressed her gratitude to the Romanian Academy for the invitation to a remarkable event that highlights the significance of the work of a great poet—one who has become a national institution in Romanian culture, with Eminescu studies evolving into a distinct field of research.
She also expressed her gratitude to the representatives of the Ipotești Memorial – ‘Mihai Eminescu’ National Cultural and Research Centre and the Romanian Academy Library for their collaboration in developing the postage stamp issue.
Acad. Mircea Dumitru, Vice President of the Romanian Academy, and Ioan Cristescu, the event’s moderator and Director of the National Museum of Romanian Literature, announced the release of the communications.
At the end, a high-class musical moment was performed by the ‘Madrigal-Marin Constantin’ National Chamber Choir conducted by Prof. Ion Marin, Ph.D., Honorary Director.
The postage stamp, as a state symbol and element of national identity, will continue its mission as a promoter of national cultural values.
Happy Anniversary to Romanian Culture!!!
