For the first time in Romania, our stamps carry the scent of fir trees!
Romfilatelia and Romanian Post introduce into circulation on Friday, November 21st this year a postage stamp issue entitled Christmas 2025 dedicated to the holidays of joy, Christmas and New Year, present in a season of gifts, eagerly awaited by children and those who return with their thoughts to childhood and the hopes that will come true. These are holidays of open hearts, urging us to give and help our fellow human beings.
For the first time at national level, the postage stamps add to the beauty of the images the unparalleled scent of fir branches, melted into the printing ink, to the delight of those who will receive Christmas and New Year’s letters.
The issue consists of two postage stamps, a perforated souvenir sheet, a First Day Cover and a philatelic folder containing a special collectible product, in a limited run printing.
The most awaited and beloved tradition of the end-of-year holidays, a symbol of generosity that brings families and friends together, is shrouded in the abundance of Christmas gifts.
The first gifts offered on the occasion of the biblical event, relived with the feast of Christmas, the Nativity of the Lord, were those brought to the baby Jesus by the Three Magi after his birth. Following a guiding star, they arrived in Bethlehem of Judea, bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The formation of the Christmas gift-giving tradition is founded on the generosity of Saint Nicholas, known for the way he chose to give, anonymously, gifts to children and those in need.
Santa Claus is a figure in a form that has become a symbol of the modern Christmas which transformed him into the image of a character with a white beard and the appearance of a cheerful old man who harnesses his reindeer to a sleigh that carries him in flight to the most distant destinations where the long-awaited gifts must be delivered.
In the run-up to the Christmas holidays, the ancient traditions of gift-giving reappear in a world of fairy lights whose rays pierce through the incomparable aroma of fir branches, present in every home as a symbol of eternity and long life. Silver or gold baubles and sparkling tinsel reflect the lights that dispel the darkness of long winter nights, accompanied by cheerful melodies in which the accompaniment of bells announces that Santa Claus is somewhere nearby, ready to bring gifts.
The postage stamp with the face value of Lei 5 features images of traditional gifts alongside the fruits offered to carollers.
We find a little soldier, a miniature copy of Peneș Curcanul (a Romanian infantryman/hero from a famous poem), a little horse, and a doll dressed in traditional costumes with embroidery and lace, all placed in a woven wicker basket, set on a tablecloth with traditional embroidery, meant to complete the festive atmosphere.
The postage stamp with the face value of Lei 14 depicts a detail of Christmas tree decorations, in which a bauble bearing the image of an angel from a Nativity scene accompanies a bauble bearing the image of a traditional Santa Claus.
In the story-like design of the souvenir sheet, a winter landscape brings together animals, a snowman, a festively lit decorated house, with a string of LEDs spelling out the word ROMANIA against the backdrop of the starry sky.
The First Day Cover highlights the beauty of fir branches, complemented by a traditional bauble from whose sparkles appear the Star of the Magi and the word Christmas.
