The Romanian postage stamp invites you to the universe of songbirds

Pasari cantatoare_Songbirds

Romfilatelia proposes to bird lovers and philatelists a new philatelic issue on the fauna topic, whose postage stamps illustrate Songbirds.

Therefore, the four stamps of the issue present birds which are assigned by ornithologists to the order Passeriformes and are characterized by the diversity of size and plumage, such as:

– The Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) is illustrated on the stamp with the face value of lei 4.50. It is a small bird, which can be found in the temperate European countries and neighbouring regions of Asia. In our country, the hawfinch can often be seen in lowland light forests;

– The stamp with the face value of lei 5.00 illustrates the Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella), a bird spread almost all over Eurasia, the species in our country preferring open habitats;

– The Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus), a bird that nests in the coniferous forests of Northern Europe, Asia and North America, having a silky plumage and the dominant colour grey, is reproduced on the stamp with the face value of lei 8.10;

– On the stamp with the face value of lei 9.10 is depicted the Eurasian Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula), a small passerine bird, spread throughout Europe, except for the cold areas. In Romania, it is met in mountainous forests, going down to valleys in cold winters.

The issue is completed by a set of 4 maxicards and a first day cover, which reproduces the Long-tailed Tit (Aegithalos caudatus). It is a little sedentary bird of great beauty, its dominant colour being white, with shades of pink and scarlet. The long-tailed tit lives in deciduous and mixed forests, being spread throughout the entire Europe.

The philatelic album, the special product of the issue, is created into a limited edition of 255 pcs. and is equipped with the block of 4 postage stamps and the First Day Cover of the issue, having the “first day” postmark clearly imprinted in gold foiling. Both products are numbered from 001 to 255.

As page composition were used the sheet of 32 stamps, the minisheet of 5 stamps + 1 label and the block of
4 stamps (in philatelic album).

Starting with Friday, February 6th, 2015, the postage stamp issue Songbirds will be available in all Romfilatelia shops in Bucharest and countrywide.

Romfilatelia thanks the Institute of Biology of the Romanian Academy and the photographers Bogdan Ciungara, Cristian Mihai and Daniel Petrescu for the documentary and photographic support granted in the accomplishment of this postage stamp issue.
