Philatelic premiere at the anniversary of the National Bank of Romania

135 de ani de la infiintarea BNR_135 years since the establishment of the National Bank of Romania

At the anniversary of 135 years since the establishment of the National Bank of Romania, Romfilatelia celebrates it through a postage stamp issue, with an eponymous title, dedicated to one of the oldest institutions in our country, whose importance is indisputable from a cultural and financial standpoint. Starting with Tuesday, September 29th, 2015, the philatelic issue’s elements will be available in Romfilatelia’s stores from Bucharest, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Timisoara.

The two postage stamps of the issue reproduce the image of the lei 20 banknote, issued on
February 28th, 1881 and found in the patrimony of the National Museum of Romanian History, together with the images of the two signatories. Thus, the stamp with the face value of lei 3.30 depicts Ion I. Campineanu, the first Governor of the National Bank of Romania, while the stamp with the face value of lei 9.10 presents the banknote’s reverse and the image of Emil Costinescu, the first Director of the Banknote Manufacturing and Accounting Service, which he led for 16 years.

As page composition we can find the sheet of 20 stamps, the minisheet of 4 stamps with illustrated border and the block of 2 stamps, the last two philatelic elements presenting a distinctive characteristic – the logo of the National Bank of Romania, visible only under UV light.

The first day cover and the special product, the philatelic album, complete the postage stamp issue.

As a philatelic premiere, the album presents a unique graphic element: the image of the banknote issued in 1881, representing the border of the special block of the issue, which is printed on coated paper, on both sides.

The album is created into a limited edition of 265 pcs. and is equipped with the special block which presents graphic elements in gold foiling and ink visible under UV light, and with the first day cover having the ”first day” postmark clearly imprinted in gold foiling. Both products are numbered from 001 to 265.

In the achievement of this project, Romfilatelia thanks the National Bank of Romania and the National Museum of Romanian History for their support.
